Kaino is a data service (“the service”) provided by the Institute for the Languages of Finland (“the Institute”). The Kaino service is available on the World Wide Web at http://kaino.kotus.fi. Responsibility for the contents of the service lies with the Institute. It is the aim of the Institute continually to improve the service and user feedback is therefore requested.Materials contained in the service are intended for the purposes of linguistic research and teaching. Those materials not requiring a special permission can also be used for other honorable purposes. Allowed uses and purposes for those materials that do require a permission or a licence are governed by separate terms of use and licence agreements.
Use of the service presupposes a data-communications connection, a Web browser and other data-communications software, which are the user’s responsibility. The Institute offers the service for use with no obligation and does not guarantee that it will be error-free or that it will work without interruption.
The service contains both copyrighted materials and those that are free from copyright restrictions. It is the user’s responsibility to obey copyrights, other legislation and public decency.
Using copyrighted material in a way that goes beyond the legally permitted use always requires the written permission of the Institute or a third party. Without a permission, one is allowed by the law, for example, to quote a work in an appropriate manner and to the extent necessary for the purpose (the Finnish Copyright Act, § 22). Quotations must be accompanied by information about the source in accordance with instructions given in the service. Acknowledgement is also requested for other use of the materials in any context, including research, academic theses and dissertations as well as presentations.
